Chandni Brown appointed an official ambassador of UN SDG Film Festival
Following the success of Sahan Shakti and contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, JUST Impact Co-Founder, Chandni Brown, joins a prestigious group of filmmakers and activists as an official ambassador of the BigSyn International Film Festival.
The BigSyn is the world's biggest Sustainability Film Festival. Led by OSCAR- BAFTA and EMMY- award winners, it brings to the stage dozens of films under the banner of the UN SDGs. From stories on environmental conservation, social justice, gender equality and sustainable living, it is a testament to the power of creativity for social change.
Chandni Brown reflects:
“It is an honour to have been asked to represent the BigSyn International Film Festival as an official ambassador: a festival that shares the same values around the role of film and audio-visual storytelling as our own organisation.”
As part of the Centre for Big Synergy - a civil society organisation of the United Nations - the BigSyn seeks to inspire action and education across the 17 SDGs, using film as a medium to engage and persuade.
To date, the festival has reached an audience of over 45 million people across 120 countries, offering a platform for NGOs, charities, research centres and social enterprises to elevate their stories and key messaging.
Commenting on her own contributions to the festival, Chandni states:
“SDG activists have a lot to gain from documentary filmmaking. Filmmakers are now increasingly interested in impact storytelling, and audiences want to see authenticity on the big screen.
A classic example is our very own 2023 documentary, Sahan Shakti, which explored notions of gender equality in arranged marriage. With the help of platforms like the BigSyn, the film was able to reach audiences across South Asia and beyond, bringing our research and stories to those most affected.”
