Sahan Shakti: Award Winner at the IISFF 2024

JUST Impact Co-Founder, Chandni Brown, wins the Best First Time Director Award for the documentary short, Sahan Shakti (2023) at the International Istanbul Short Film & The Writer’s Journey Festival 2024.

The International Istanbul Short Film & The Writer’s Journey Festival (IISFF) celebrates impact storytelling around the world, embracing creative shorts that are distinctly original and brave with a problem to express.

Screening first time, non-budgeted filmmakers alongside famous talents and experienced professionals with multi-million dollar budgets, the festival prides itself in its eclectic collection of short films.

The world of short films is as vast as an ocean.

Following an awards ceremony held on 27th April 2024 in the Atatürk Cultural Center (Istanbul), Sahan Shakti was proud to have secured its second international festival award.

Selected by a panel of award-winning filmmakers, actors and writers, the ethnographic documentary secured the award for Best First Time Director for an international short film.

Director, Chandni Brown, comments:

“Sahan Shakti is a film that was directed, produced and edited on a non-existent budget and with very limited external resources. It is an example of how any organisation (of any size) or anyone for that matter, can leverage the power of film to drive change.

Film is one of the most democratising mediums - all you need is a camera, willing participants and a story worth telling - and of those there are many!”
