Following a group of Muslim and non-muslim students in the UK, Ramadan Kareem (2023) is a celebration of faith and friendship forged across borders. In challenge to the continued problematisation and politicisation of Islam in western media, the film centres itself in the everyday practices of Islamic faith, as a group of transnational friends join together to share in a simple Iftar and reflect on the meaning of Ramadan away from home.
The project combined traditional ethnographic research practices with the medium of film as a means of inquiry into religion, cultural practices and the relationships between people.
